 Booking Through Thursday asks:

Some people read one book at a time. Some people have a number of them on the go at any given time, perhaps a reading in bed book, a breakfast table book, a bathroom book, and so on, which leads me to…

  1. Are you currently reading more than one book?
  2. If so, how many books are you currently reading?
  3. Is this normal for you?
  4. Where do you keep your current reads?

Good questions, and I’m glad they came up because I was trying to think of what I was going to blog about today!

1.  Yes, I normally read more than one book at a time.  How many depends on the circumstances and the books.   For example, if I’m on vacation, I read one at a time.

2. Right now, three.  That is usually the max number of books I have going at once.

3. Yes, this is normal for me :-) .

4.  I always keep one in my purse to read at times like waiting in the car line to pick up my kids.  There is one by my bedside.  There is one in my studio to read when I’m doing handwork but only if it’s a large book that can stay open by itself (otherwise, I catch up on my magazines in there).

What are my current books?  They are  The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society, currently going back and forth between my purse and bedside–that tells you that I consider it good!

I cracked open How to Read a Poem: And Fall in Love with Poetry last night.

And, in my studio, I’m going through by The Illustrated Bead Bible: Terms, Tips & Techniques by Theresa Flores Geary, a book I borrowed from the library.

How about you?  What are your reading habits?

***********Don’t forget to enter my book and ATC give-away!  Deadline April 20th.

Today’s Booking Through Thursdays asks:

Monica suggested this one: Got this idea from Literary Feline during her recent contest:

“Name a favorite literary couple and tell me why they are a favorite. If you cannot choose just one, that is okay too. Name as many as you like–sometimes narrowing down a list can be extremely difficult and painful. Or maybe that’s just me.”

Oh my gosh, this one is so easy for me. Rhett Butler and Scarlett O’Hara from, you guessed it, “Gone With the Wind”. Of all the books I own, I have re-read this one so many times– but the last time was a long time ago. I don’t know why. I’ve been planning on re-reading this during Christmas break…if I can wait that long.

The passion that Scarlett and Rhett feel for each other is amazing. Even when she thinks she’s in love with that wuss Ashley Wilkes (although he is a very nice guy). I always liked to think at the end that Scarlett will, indeed, win Rhett back.

And the movie? Even though it is deservedly a classic, it does not measure up to the book. How I imagine Rhett in the book is nothing at all like Clark Gable. Also, like so many movies based on books, a lot of scenes were left out and other things changed a bit.

So if you have never read “Gone With the Wind”, you better think about doing so!

I’m going to participate in this week’s Booking Through Thursday; the question is:

What tomes are waiting patiently on your shelves?

Well, here are my books waiting to be read (TBR). They currently reside in the closet of my office/library. At our last house, they had their own bookcase but we have less shelving here (the old house had built-in bookcases). I just now counted, and there are 43 here. I know there are a few more here and there throughout the house (mainly by my bedside).

Beleive it or not, 43 is a small number compared to the waiting-to-be-reads by other book bloggers I follow :-) !
Also, in the past month or so, I decided to slow way down on buying books for a while until I catch up on my TBR pile. I know if my husband read this, he would roll his eyes and be somewhat skeptical, but it’s true!

Some random titles from my TBR pile:

“Queen Isabella” by Alison Weir (I’m looking forward to this one since some of my ancestors are in this book)

“Five Quarters of the Orange” by Joanne Harris (author of “Chocolat”)

“Julie and Julia” by Julie Powell

“The Tipping Point” by Malcolm Gladwell

“Revenge of the Middle-Aged Woman” by Elizabeth Buchan

“Monsoon Diary: A Memoir with Recipes” by Shoba Narayan

“How to Read Literature Like a Professor” by Thomas C. Foster

Which one will I read next? I’m not sure. I’m approaching the end of “A Suitable Boy” by Vikram Seth (page 982 of 1349). I tend to read similiar books in batches until I move on; so maybe it will be “Monsoon Diary”. I forgot I had it until I took a look at my TBRs today!
