Third Book Finished and Mini-Challenge: Re-Reading
Posted by Valerie in Read-a-Thon, books
About 6 hours left of this read-a-thon! And I’ve just finished a third book; “Water for Elephants” (346 pages) by Sara Gruen. I liked the book–got a really good feel of what circus life was once like!
Books Completed: Three (“Slumdog Millionaire”, “Three Cups of Tea”, “Water for Elephants”)
Others in Process: “Because They Wanted To”, stories by Mary Gaitskill and “The Genius of Language”, essays edited by Wendy Lesser. I’ll probably attempt to read one more from each book.
Total pages read: 1,086
What’s next: reading a little more from the above in-process books. I’ll look through what’s left of the other books I have for this read-a-thon, and see what I think I can handle. I’m going to lie on the couch now and if I doze off, so be it, but I don’t expect to sleep straight through the end of the read-a-thon, which is 6AM Sunday my time.
Now for another mini-challenge and more chances to win prizes: The Bluestocking Society asks about books we like to re-read:
When I was a kid, I re-read books all the time. Such as the Little House books by Laura Ingalls Wilder and the Anne of Green Gables series by L.M. Montgomery.
Now, as an adult, I don’t re-read books that much because there are so many new books out there calling my name! But, there has been “Gone With the Wind” and I recently enjoyed re-reading that one. I also very much liked “The Shadow of the Wind” by Carlos Ruiz Zafon and re-read that one about a year after the first time I read it. I’ve also re-read “A Suitable Boy” by Vikram Seth, no mean feat since that one has over 1,000 pages!
OK, now I’m going to trudge up to the couch. Somehow I don’t think I’m going to last too much longer without taking a nap!

WOW! congrats on surpassing 1000 pages! CHEERS
I’m not a rereader either. I, too, hear the call of all those books out there waiting for me.
Congrats on another finish!!! And I reread the Anne series all of the time too.
Congrats on finishing a third book!
I don’t re-read as much as I used to when I was a kid either, but there are still a few that I return to again and again. Patrick O’Brian, James Herriot, Louisa May Alcott… Visiting old friends, er, I mean re-reading, is such a different experience from reading a new book, isn’t it?
Great list of rereads! I love going back to Anne of Green Gables. And I completely know what you mean about having little time to reread. Still, it’s nice to visit old friends once in a while. Thanks for participating in my mini-challenge.
