Museum Diversion and Musings
Posted by Valerie in artists, arts, museums, websites to check outTomorrow is the last day of school for the kids, so today was my last full day of freedom until they go back August 13th. Since I didn’t have anything scheduled today, I decided I’d go to the Colorado Springs Fine Arts Center. By myself.
Even if you are lucky enough to have a partner who enjoys attending museums and galleries with you, it is still nice to visit solo sometimes. I don’t remember the last time I’ve done that.
The FAC, as it is more commonly known, is a relatively small museum. I took note of some artists I was impressed by. I’m surprised that after looking them up online that none of the ones I looked up, except one (see below), have official websites of their own. I remember a couple years ago when I was doing research for art work that we own, that the situation was the same. I would have thought things would have improved by now, regarding artist websites.
Any online information on artists and their artwork generally seem to be provided by galleries or museums that are exhibiting them. One problem with this is that maybe the artwork isn’t adequately showcased, or the site is shared with artwork by other artists.
Dale Chihuly, who has some pieces at the FAC, has an excellent website. I think all artists should consider having their own websites showcasing them as an individual artist with their unique work. By the way, the pictures on his website are far better than the ones below (at the FAC).

Do you have an art museum nearby? Been wanting to visit, but haven’t had the time? Consider doing it soon, even if it is by yourself. You can take an hour or two to do that, even if you only get to see part of the museum.

Shortly before we left Sacramento, Del took me to the Crocker Art Museum as part of my birthday celebration. They had a small exhibit by Dale Chihuly. They would not allow us to take pictures. I did sneak some pictures of the floors of the museum which were wonderful. We went there especially to see his art as we had seen a show on PBS that really impressed us. His glass work is magnificant. I would like to see more of his work in real life. I am so glad you got to go today.
Beautiful glass art. I am always impressed by what people can make with glass. It is so colorful, too.
