My kids have now been out of school for one week.  This week in a nutshell:

Monday and Tuesday hubby took  time off work.  We all pretty much just puttered around.  The weather was dismal both days.

Wednesday, the kids and I hung out on our deck so that we could watch the Thunderbirds perform after the Air Force Academy graduation (VP Biden was there to speak).  They flew directly over our house a few times.  Pretty cool!

After that, I took the kids to the pool.  The outdoor pool wasn’t open (too cold), so the kids swam in the indoor pool.  Youngest son quickly tired of the indoor pool because  it has only a very small area that is 3 feet deep, so not that much fun for him.  We weren’t there that long since my daughter had dance class to go to.

Thursday the outdoor pool was finally open!  I brought a book, but since it was out first time using this pool, it was slow reading because I would look up to check on the kids, look back down and re-read the same paragraph, and so on.  Pool time was cut short when it clouded over and the kids got cold.

Friday (today)  couldn’t get to the pool until the afternoon, due to  morning errands I had to run.  One hour of beautiful sunny weather, and I was much more relaxed this time and got less repetitive reading done.  Alas, rainclouds quickly moved in after about an hour–  so we transferred to the indoor pool.  Again, younger son didn’t like this very much and we didn’t stay there much longer.

Sooooo….that’s our summer so far!  I suspect it will be mostly the same as above, except for a few out-of-town trips we’ll make.  Will be interesting to see whether I will really get much more reading done.   A lot depends on how much pool time we really get each day, I think.   The younger kids will have swim lessons for the next two weeks, so maybe then I can have quality reading time.

I know already I’ll be spending less time in the studio this summer– maybe some evenings.

Don’t be surprised if my blog posts are farther apart for the next ten weeks!  I don’t want them to be yawn-inducing posts about pool time…this is the last time I mention it directly, I promise, unless something exciting happens!

How is your summer going so far?

And, tonight, looks like pizza for dinner.  Looking forward to it!

One thing about living in the mountains is that the afternoon clouds come in, sometimes with thunderstorms. We’ve learned to go to the pool around 11 am to beat the weather. Do you have a membership at this pool or is it a public pool?

We had McDonald’s for dinner to celebrate the last day of school. At least McDonald’s is a treat for the kids (not me!) and I didn’t have to cook dinner. Pizza sounds much better.

    See you soon!

Jeez, we still have two more weeks of school, not to mention a violin recital, a rock band gig, a couple of end-of-the-year field trips and parties, and I’m sure I’m forgetting something…
