Geez, I am getting performance anxiety–based on the book blogs I read,  I don’t seem to “do it” enough– that is, read enough!!   Much less write about it.  Oh well, there are always people who read more.  Or read less.

Or don’t read at all.  Apparently, Kanye West is one of those people.  Cake Wrecks is a site I love, and today’s post, Sunday Sweets:  Reading Rocks , mentions this sad fact about Kanye West but makes up for it with many pictures of cakes made based on children’s books!

Enjoy books with settings in other countries?  I do.  Rebecca at Lost In Books has just started a new feature.  Each Saturday, she plans to list books she has read that are set in other countries, and eventually fill a “virtual map” with those countries.  Last week, it was books set in Chile.  Yesterday, books set in Turkey:  Take Me Away Saturday (Turkey).  That reminded me I have a book in my TBR pile called “Bastard of Istanbul” by Elif Shafak.

Wish you could get more review copies of books?  Jessica at The Bluestocking Society gives Five Suggestions.  I have received a few advance copies in the past, but the trick is to get books that  you really want to read, and also not to end up drowning in too many advance reader’s copies!  The latter sounds like a nice problem to have, but can also cause another form of performance anxiety regarding book blogging.

Finally, I’m now coveting moleskine notebooks ever since Matt wrote about why and how he uses his Moleskine notebooks for his book reading.  It seems to be a better way than my current method of writing on scraps of paper or index cards!

I should be able to get more reading done this afternoon–my daughter has rehearsal for her upcoming spring dance recital, and I’ll have to wait around for a while.

Hope you all enjoy what’s left of the weekend, and have a good week!

I’ve actually read Bastard of Istanbul…and I liked it! It’s funny you mentioned it, because I read Rebecca’s post and was trying to remember other books set in Turkey that I’ve read…and I forgot about that one! So thanks for reminding me. :-D

Ha ha, I love Cake Wrecks too! Those children’s books are amazing! Also, Steve is a big fan of Moleskines. I have one but I’m too intimidated to actually use it. The burden of history is just too great (Hemingway, Picasso, etc.).
